Aboard the Dash 8-200 with Island Aviation Chief Pilot Mmohamed Mansoor and First Officer Mmohamed Muja we fly south at FL210 enroutge to the GAN airport on flight 3211. Enroute, discover the natural beauty of the Maldives, the advanced flight deck of the Dash 8, and the unique aviation careers of these two pilots.

Observe prestart, afterstart, pre takeoff, after takeoff, cruise, descent, approach, landing, after landing, and shutdown flows and checklists. Captain Monsoor presents the flight deck of the aircraft to us describing the operation of many onboard systems. Nav displays and the pressurization system are thoroughly reviewed. Watch closesly as the crew make mare their selections on the Mode Control Panel and command the AFDS.

Interestingly enough our southerly heading takes us over the equator. Our GPS switches from north to south reference.

Approaching GAN we set up for a visual approach. GAN was formerly a British air base until 1976. Today it remains the most populated atoll in the Republic of the Maldives.
